Do you have any idea who I am?

I love bureaucracy! At the Secretary of State's office, where I tried to get my Michigan driver's license, I produced my Tennessee driver's license, my passport, my credit card, and my mortgage statement. Of course, I didn't have enough ID, so I had to go home to get more information. Next day, I brought my driver's license, my passport, my social security card, my bank statement, my insurance documents, and my marriage license. "Uh, sir, we don't accept social security cards, insurance documents, and your marriage license isn't certified in the State of Michigan." "Excuse me! Do you have any idea of who I am?" She replied with a slight hint of irritation, "No sir, I don't." I quickly said, "I'm Kevin Thompson and I've got 15 ways to prove it, so please let me get my Michigan driver's license." The bureaucracy was so thick, even petty begging couldn't penetrate it. She asked if I needed to speak to the manager. I thought it was in everyone's best interest that I didn't speak to the manager and I still don't have a driver's license.

We had a cold front blow through town this past week. It was definitely a learning experience as the temperatures dropped below zero for a few days straight. The wind chill was sometimes -20. In Tennessee, school gets cancelled at the threat of snow. Here, school gets cancelled when there's sub-zero temperatures because the kids get frost bite waiting for the school bus. I thought that was pretty funny.

On a warmer note, Sharon and I bought our furniture for the nursery last week. We pick it all up this Saturday. I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as the nursery is set up.
